Yup, The reenactors bought many East German tunics and then they put fake or real Third Reich insignias for use in reenacting. They often use dark collar DDR tunics because they are very identical to actual TR tunics. They also put cufftitles around the left sleeves. Most reenactors cant afford to buy real TR-era tunics and instead they bought dark collar DDR tunics to use in reenacting. I've seen some DDR tunics were worn in reenacting. My fellow collector friend owns a DDR tunic that was used in reenacting with its TR insignias stripped off. Regards James

Oh well airsoft is like paintball. You shoot little painful plastic BBs at each other for fun!

Hey, if you ever get tired of it just put the thing up on ebay with some story about how "my grandpa took this here uniform home from the war after he shot the Kraut who was wearing it" and see what the suckers will pay. That would, of course, damn your soul straight to hell...

Neither fish nor fowl nor good red herring, as they say.

But it ain't like you've compromised some incalculably valuable artifact (though Viktor and his duty car may beg to differ on that point). Surely beats getting paint splatter all over a priceless TR tunic (or even an expensive quality replica), and at least a better fate for an NVA tunic than becoming rags or landfill, which I'm sure is where many pieces are today.

Not my cup of tea, but I guess whatever floats your boat.

For $30-50 more you can get a cheap reproduction from China or Hong Kong.

But, these uniforms are still plentiful and many are getting converted to other things. It leaves the others to go up in value in the future.

I remember about 5 years ago I got a regular army tunic to convert, but I left the original unissued paper tag on it and just removed the collar tabs and buttons. I got it for $15 total. I converted into a General's tunic (I like their tunics ) but a few months ago I removed everything and still need to find the correct color string to resew the buttons and collar tabs.

Well its your money and I am not going to argue over your decision.

If you want to save some money when you do decide to buy a better tunic, there is a seller on eBay that is regarded as the best of all the other Asian dealers. It seems you are doing the SS, here is an M42:
