A friend of mine started this topic on Slovenian forum, and I couldn't help him - does anybody knows what was purpose of this pocket and strap (encircled blue)???

The strap on the left looks too similar to the equivalent Soviet one used for the wrist compass to be an accident. But I seem to recall that our esteemed veterans confirmed that it was NOT used for that and that they themselves did not know what it was for... I have tried with the DDR compass and it cannot work.

I have no idea what the strap on the left would have been used for and I can't imagine we ever did use it for anything, but I can tell you for absolutely certain that the centre top pocket was used for a rubber eraser. Cheers, Torsten.
