    Dagger Box Color Question

    Hello All,
    <O</O
I have a basic dagger with a blue box. Does the color indicate a manufacturer or possible time frame (the certificate indicates 1986).
    <O</O
    Thanks,
    <O</O

By the colour of the grip it seems to be a late model. What colour is the hanger?

The certificate is dated 1986 - so I believe it has been established this is a late issue model.

I've seen regular officer daggers in all sorts of colored boxes - green, red and brown. So I suspect blue is not an issue, although it is the first time I've seen this color for a card board dagger box.

Just out of curiosity, is there a serial number on the box label, the certificate and the blade of the dagger near the pommel hand guard?

Michael, the only numbers are on the blade and <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:address><st1:Street>box</st1:Street> (73712)</st1:address>. The blade has no other markings. I don’t see any type serial numbers on the cert. I am posting some older photos I took. A little fuzzy but you can make out the numbers.

Knuckles930, the hangers are silver braid on some type of gray material.

Actually the box has 073712. Don’t know if this makes a difference. I know next to nothing about these. <O</O

Without box. Although on a blue back-ground, I think you can make out the hangar color.

                    Nice catch.

You have a matched set. Very nice.

And now I've seen my first blue box.

Ah gray. It seemed at first that they might had been blue. Which would make it a VM one,
I think. But its been a while since I saw those. The colour would probably be much more
bluer than the off tone I got here on my screen.

And thats leaving the questionable state of my laptop screen out.

                        Anyway very nice set!

Wow!!! First time I saw a blue colored DDR dagger box! I never seen this such blue dagger box before. Anyway a nice 1986-dated NVA officer dagger in its original blue dagger box! James

Mine too is blue. Serial number 071853 and the guarantee certificate is dated 5th March 1986 but does not bear the serial number. Some time ago someone put forward the hypothesis that serial numbers starting with "0" were of unissued daggers assembled during 1990.
I don't particularly care any way but again on the blade the "0" is missing in mine as it is in yours.

                              Hi Matteo,

I guess you were not as surprised to see a "Blue" in color box, as were many of us. It is interesting to learn they are not all that uncommon and that you also have one this color.

I wouldn't get to concerned about the question regarding the serial number issue. The fact it came in a matching box and with a certificate I think pretty much confirms the dagger (yours and Lee's) to be pre-1990.
