VoPo - 30 Jahre Treue Dienst

After being away for 6 months to Lombok, I finally got back to my collection.

While I had a Generals Shirt waiting for me, (which my brother found funny
to open from the original packaging, to send me a photo while wearing it) I
got around to order some nice things again.

And one of those was this award. A 30 year service award from the MdI.

The medal it self is about 6cm diameter.

    The back says:
    Von der Partei geführt
    Der Arbeiterklasse treu ergeben
Mit der Sowjetunion für immer verbunden

When you turn the inside of the case around, a setting for a watch appears.
Unfortunately the watch has gone missing from this award, but maybe any
of you have an example of the watch? Than I have some guide line what to
    look for.

I have identical 30 yr True Serice box

Hi There, I do have a identical DDR Vopo 30 year Treue Dienst commemorative medal in its original red leatherette box with a large space for watch and a round space for the commemorative medal on the side that would be awarded to male Vopo officers and another side show show only the round medal space. I got this box in a large grouping of a female DDR Vopo officer who served in Vopo prison system for long time. I will take some pictures of this large Vopo medal grouping this weekend. Thanks, James

Here are some pictures of the previously named badges:

Does anyone know when these type of badges where awarded?

Was it common to use a actual screw for the pin?

                MdI Qualification badges

Hi Knuckles930, Those are MdI qualification badges 1,2 and 3rd classes. Those badges are awarded to Vopo and other DDR law enforcement organizations in MdI organization. They got those qualification badges depending how good they earned in training. Vopos ususally wear those badges on right side of their uniforms just above the right upper pocket. Yes I do have those 3 classes of this Mdi qualification badges in my collection. Yes there are screwbacks! I saw them on my Mdi Qualification badges. Hope this information will helps you! Thanks,James

I'm familiar with the skill badges, I have several sets of NVA ones. And I noticed that
those also use regular screws welded to the badge.

But my question here was, when where these produced. (Probably should has used these
                  words before.)

                  Thanks for the info anyhow.

Hello there, Most of DDR medals and badges are manfactured at a former Gustav Brehmer factory known during DDR times as Prenawa( I cant spell its exact correct name). It was located in Neumarchkichen(once again, I cant spell its correct German name). Your MdI qualification badges are made during 1970s-1980s time frame. Hope it helps! James

James it was VEB Präwema in Markneukirchen. See this previous thread that provides background on Präwema: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=351822

it's interesting to see that the medal was awarded as a "table medal" or medallion and as an actual medal to be worn on the uniform.
I recall that the SED also gave out watches and I believe the Kampfgruppen as well...I know I have some info somewhere..I'll look.

Certainly is. Didn't thought about it that way. But I do have one of those
medals in my collection also. I'll post a photo to add to the thread.
