    DDR Volksmarine shooting lanyard?

    Hello all,
This is a Navy Schützenschnur that was posted in the Kriegsmarine forum not long ago, which I believe to be DDR Volksmarine lanyard (with the characteristic 23 knots instead of the 14 knots of the KM), but with an original KM level 4 award shield applied to it after the fact.
The cord itself seems a good match to the one posted by Michael Gallagher in 2005:

    Agree? Disagree?
    Best regards,
    ---Norm

certainly looks like a Volksmarine cord. Cheers, Torsten.

      Norm,

The cord itself definitely looks like Volksmarine.

        Thanks Gentlemen,
Can one tell if this is the "old" type mentioned in that thread from 2005, i.e. from the era 1957-1986, or did the Volksmarine lanyards always look the same?
        It certainly looks minty fresh!
        Best regards,

          Norm,

I suspect the VM lanyards pretty much remained the same, with possibly the exception of the number of knots composing it changing from early to late era.
Where the early silver gray color lanyards were made of braided wire, the VM was not. Hope that helps a little.

            Thanks Michael,
But how many knots were there in each era during the DDR, and when did that particular feature change? The only ones I know about at present are the 23-knot variety.

              Norm,

I believe the early VM cords had only 14 knots as did the early Land Forces cords. I'm going off the top of my head here so I could be mistaken, but I think I'm correct.
