    More Resources?

    Hello Everyone,
Genosse Adlerfan53 here again with a newbie question. I am sure this has been asked a million times but I will ask again.
Are there other places to look for DDR items to purchase other than E-Bay, Trident or Gowen? I am going nuts looking at the same sites.
Also, beside books are there any hidden or lesser known web sites that have great information on the DDR that goes into detail?
Everyone here has been helpful and awesome and I feel very welcomed into this club. I appreciate anything you guys can help me with.
    Thank You,
    Eric
(notice I used Genosse. I'm getting there)

LOL...I took my own advice and searched here on the forum. What I came up with is that it is very limited in terms of dealers.

I think you will have to start using Ebay.de like everybody else. Trident have a habit of NEVER removing anything from their website even though they ran out of it ages ago. And they are notorious for not answering emails... I found Gowen very reliable but a bit pricey at the top end. I have not dealt with anybody on Ebay.com. Can obviously recommend Berhard Troeger on Ebay.de as he speaks English, accepts Paypal etc. An alternative is Sfrankish on Ebay.co.uk; i.e. next door to me But these last two would involve some serious postage costs.

Of course not!!! I am sorry although to be fair I thought that we were talking about uniform dealers and you tend to have books and medals. But I agree wholeheartedly: your site should definitely be visited!

thank you ... I feel better again now ... I have tried uniforms on ebay many times and they simply do not sell ... I have now decided to put DDR uniforms up for sale on my website only and at fixed (sensible) prices ... some are up already and more are to come ... have a look there from time to time, if you have the time .... Cheers, Torsten.

I myself tried Trident, but they never answered my emails, or direct phone calls. I wonder due to the vehicles they offer if they are run by the Russian mob or something...but at the risk of having my knee caps broken I would say they have a good selection. Like everyone else has said, Gowen is good if you know what you want and don't care about price. They are based out of N carolina so the shipping isn't too bad.

Ebay I have notice is more of a fishing game. Some good some bad, but the real treasures take time and pop up every once in a great while.

                        -Ian

The webshop of Militaria4you (http://militaria4you.com/)is also quite nice. Though the website is in dutch it's very easy to navigate. They do speak english and as fas as I know they accept paypal. Good service and nice contact. Sometimes you can even find some hidden treasures in their shop.

Oh yes you are quite right! I have only bought Soviet stuff from Ruud but if I remember rightly I had to send cash in a letter which is always a bit of a nuisance. Years ago I remember him coming to one of the winter militaria fairs in England, but sadly he has never repeated the trip. I guess it was not worth his while. I suppose I should have been his main customer, but there is little I have not got already and if I am after doubles, I want them cheap ...
Given that you live in sunny Holland, are there any news of what has happened to the huge stock of Frank Van Gelder? I visited his warehouse twice and found it absolutely amazing. When I tried to arrange a third trip he told me he had sold off all the stuff I was after. To whom? Where is that stuff? It cannot have vanished in thin air...

I have bought from Torsten before and am pleased with what he has to offer and is a gentleman when dealing with. I rather buy from a fellow DDR forum member and help them out. I picked up a very nice Handbuch Militarisches Grundwissen that has helped me out greatly.
