Surfing channels tonight, I happened across a show called "Pawn Stars", a reality show set in a pawn shop, where folks bring in their items and try to get cash, and it's all filmed for our benefit. So a couple comes in trying to sell... a bit of the Berlin Wall, attached to a Grenztruppen cuff title.
They were looking for $500. The guy wouldn't offer them anything.

Thanks for sharing that link. It really is a great tool for understanding the extent and nature of the barrier.
Think where computer animation was 20 years ago. Then look at this, and some of the even more detailed and realistic environments they're producing for video games. Now imagine what kind of virtual walkthroughs they'll be able to create in another 20 years. You'll be able to see the grime under the Grenzer's fingernails...

Die Berliner Mauer in der Welt, by Anna Kaminsky. Berlin Story Verlag.
On the occasion of the 20 Years of the Mauerfall, a book has been published, dealing about where are located the pieces of the Berlin Wall today, in all countries.
"The book is entitled 'Die Berliner Mauer in der Welt' (The Berlin Wall in the World), and was published in September 2009. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of German reunification, the Federal Foundation for the Reconciliation of the SED Dictatorship (Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur - where SED is the acronym for Sozialistische Einheitspartei Deutschlands, the Socialist Unity Party of Germany) published this work, which lists all the known places where 'genuine' fragments of the Berlin Wall are still to be found."
A very nice and pleasant book to have.

I'll bet I'm not in it.
I also donated two large pieces of the wall to my High School and to my sister's High School. And I gave each member of my former Senior High School graduation class at a Class Reunion their own piece of the wall. My wife and I carried the concrete pieces from Berlin to the States in our suitcases back when weight was of no issue. It was quite hilarious. Each time we rechecked our bags, the attendants would ask, "What have you got in there, concrete?".
I have to think my situation is normal, and therefore there are pieces of the wall all over the world that will not be covered in this book.
I suspect the book is probably primarily focusing on very larges pieces or sections of the wall.
It should prove to be interesting reading.
I also have genuine cobblestones from the foundation of the original Checkpoint Charlie. Being there is everything.Last edited by Michael D. Gallagher; 11-28-2009, 10:52 AM.Michael D. GALLAGHER

Hi Michael,
You stress the right point : the book deals with entire sections of the Wall, except some chunks displayed in Museum, because officially offered, etc...
The few lines I inserted from Berlin Story were not precise enough...
This said, I have the book and have read it. I'm surprised because I believed there would me many more entire segments displayed in the world... But, probably this book is not exhaustive.
Nevertheless, a nice book, and a nice idea of gift. I offered some of them to French friends...
Cheers.

I am a bit late in this thread, but here is my contribution...
