    Berlin Wall memorablia

The 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall is coming soon, so I thought it would be interesting to share the Berlin Wall pieces that we have in our collection.

I'll start with the only piece I have which comes from the Eastern part of the Berlin Wall (it's all white). Unfortunately I'm not the one who took it from the Wall as I wasn't in Berlin in 1989-1990. It was given to me by a man living in Pankow 11 years ago. The guy had a big chunk and he broke that small piece for me.

    Anyway, please contribute.

I have an orignial piece of the wall, but it's an unappealing one foot long chunk of concrete with no paint.

From the wall, down 20 meters to the right of checkpoint charlie. I have a pic somewhere showing me getting it while my daughter looks on.

Talking theoretically - ain't these easily faked..?

Find a 30-40 year old concrete wall and smash it to handy pieces... voila - Berlin wall!

We don't need to talk about faked parts of a wall.

The best way to get an original part of the Berlin Wall was to use a hammer!

Good question, one that most of us that were surrounded by it never thought of.

Great photos Dan. And in some places it was just a wire fence. As with this photo of my kids in the French sector of Berlin:

The day after the wall came down.

Around 1986, I departed Berlin less than a year before the Wall fell for company command in West Germany. But friends still stationed in Berlin brought me a sizable chuck of the wall. Parts of the Wall in more rural areas were wire mesh fences combined with long dog runs.

Here are my pieces. I took these from the wall in Feb. of 1990, just a few weeks before I returned to the US after having been stationed in Germany for 5 years. It was the best day of my tour!
