Early Photo of Fence east/west Germany

Hi , i have recently come across a few East & West German items & amongst them is this original press photo of the starting of the East & West divide by means of a fence being erected on the 21/8/1959 at Zonengrenze . You can read the press report in one of the photos & i have also shown the back of the picture too show the copyrights marks . As i know nothing much about West / East german stuff & as this is i would have thought a quite rare historical picture , does it command any value as i will be looking to sell it as i only collect TR items .

            Hi Mark,

and welcome to the DDR Sub-forum.

            <link rel="File-List" href="file:///C:%5CDOCUME%7E1%5CMichael%5CLOCALS%7E1%5CTemp%5Cms ohtml1%5C01%5Cclip_filelist.xml"><st1:country-region><st1>
East Germany</st1></st1:country-region> first established itself as a communist state in 1949. The infamous Berlin Wall (first a barbed wire fence) was built starting Aug 13th, 1961. But many people are unaware that beginning on May 26th, 1952 the DDR began separating East Germany from West Germany with construction of a Frontier Border fence, and in some areas, a wall. So the authenticity of what the photo and accompanying documents purports to portray are certainly within the realm of reason. One would have to check with the actual press agency for confirmation, but at first glance it certainly looks good to me.

Hello Mark - Thanks for posting your pictures related to the showing what the fencing looked like prior to 1961. These images are for sure part of history that is being forgotten as we move further away from 1989. Today at least we have people to ask questions on what they knew...some day in the future all we will have left will be these types of pictures. They should be of interests to a person knowing more about border activity.
Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did. Quote - Sophie Scholl - White Rose resistance group
