    Kampforden document question

    Hi
    <O></O>
I have strayed from my usual collecting fields, USSR and Sweden, to the DDR. Although I have looked at DDR medals/orders for some time I have only a very small collection and perhaps even smaller knowledge about them. The one medal I have concentrated on so far is “Kämpfer gegen den Faschismus”. So I have a couple of urkunden and two groups related to the medal. With my latest group I got some other documents, among them a document for Kampforden. This document is signed by Mielke. This is where I need your forum expertise. Does this mean that the my guy was STASI? Or is there an other explanation?
    <O></O>
    /Kim

Yes, Miekle would almost certainly be Stasi. See this thread on the Kampforden: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=350723

Hello Kim - There is also a book that could assist you about STASI decorations and other intersts.

Thanks for the link Kevin. I had read that excellent thread. Much appreciated.

Ralph, without a doubt I will buy your book in the future. It's on my growing list of reference books to buy.

What surprised me was that this group was NOT listed as a STASI group. For me it was an oberstleutnant with the medal Kämpfer gegen den Faschismus. So when I got it and saw a hand written autograph from Mielke I was surprised.

Can one find out more about this guy from his name?

        /Kim

Was that group for sale very recently on ebay? I noticed it and also bid on it ... but evidently did not win ... the seller was selling all the medals separately ... Cheers, Torsten.

Yes, it was. But I didn't win the medal auction. My reserve was too low for that one and I wasn't close to a computer when it ended. Why he sold the medals seperate I can't say. Probably more money...

Maybe you'll have more luck with the next auction Torsten. Plenty more fish on the Internet.

Kim - When you get the grouping, could you please post pictures, so it can be determined if this person was a former MfS member or a person who provided direct support to the organization, thanks.

Ralph, I have the group with me. But I do not have the membership to post pics of it here.

                            Final.

This is an early Kampforden award document which is for sure nice to own in a collection. Original Mielke signature.
