Wilhelm Pieck memorial ( gedenkstätte )- an important piece of the memorial saved

    Hello

Two years ago I bought a very big wall carpet from Wilhelm Pieck (250x160cm)
Wilhelm Pieck was the first and only President of the DDR .
The seller told me at the time that he found it nearby Cottbus , I didnt make
anything of it at that time , a few months ago I spoke to that seller again and
I asked him again about the history of the carpet , he told me that he bought it from somebody who cleared out a public building in 1990 .
It turned out that this public building was the Wilhelm Pieck Gedenkstätte in Guben , the birth place of Wilhelm Pieck , the memorial was in the house he ones lived .
The Wilhelm Pieck memorial was closed in 1990 .
I knew that there was a postcard from the carpet when it was hanging at the memorial , last week I found it and received it today .
I'm very happy to have such an important piece of DDR history in my collection.

I have seen this carpet in real life and believe me guys, it is much more impressive even than it looks in Johan's photo .... and to have found this postcard showing it in its original surroundings makes it even more special ... well done Johan on adding the postcard to your special carpet ... Cheers, Torsten.

          Johan,

You have a remarkable collection of really great DDR memorabilia. While most of us acquire bits and bobs of military stuff here and there; you have been diligently going about acquiring actual East German "History".

The difference between the collections most of us on the forum have, and your collection - is that your collection is truly a museum.

          Very impressive.

I am very glad this historical piece of history of former East Germany found its way into your hands, along with the Post Card showing how and where it was originally displayed.

            Hi Michael

Thanks for your comments about my collection , yes I'm more a memorabilia man , I do like the military stuff , like uniforms etc. also , but my main collecting
interest is the music stuff , flags etc.
I'm more and more into the FDJ stuff at the moment , I like that a lot .
Here are some of my flag tops from the FDJ
            [IMG][/IMG]
The flag top with the figure is a very early one from the fourties , from the beginning of the FDJ .

            Regards , Johan

                  Johan,

That is quite a flag pole top collection you have acquired - and that is for just one organization. I'm sure you have flag pole tops to many different DDR organizations. Very impressive.

I have never before seen the second flag pole top with the man? That is really a very ornate top and quite something to look at. You were very lucky to find and acquire it, given it is from the 40s.

                      Hi Michael

I dont have a very big flag pole top collection , but I like to collect the ones from
all kind of different DDR organisations .
The one with the little man is 33 cm in height and I think its hand made .
This flag top is made in the so called '' Sowjetische Besatsungszone ''
Here are some more photos from this top .

                        Hi Olivier

That is a nice and original NVA trumpet banner , but with a fantasy price .
Is this seller not the one with all those fake generals uniforms ?
I'm glad I have this one , but if I dont had that one , I was not going to
pay such a price for it .

Yes, you are right Johan, the price is crazy !!!
You are right about the seller too... his general uniforms prices have gone bullish last year... from one month to the other prices suddenly doubled... I am still wondering why...
Anyway, you have a BEAUTIFUL collection !!!!

A superb historical DDR carpet, and some very nice flag pole tops too!
My sincere BRAVO on your collection finds as well. Speaking of Guben,
back when I first started collecting the very first high end flag I ever saw
was the WW2 era DE standard from Guben, I understand a collector had
to trade a house for it in Southern California - no kidding. Today the Guben
DE is now in the hands of the DE book publisher Roger Bender. Please do
excuse this posting of a non DDR item, but thought that a likewise
Guben related rare item might be of some passing interest?

Thanks for this photo , fantastic !
I understand that you also have a DE standarte ?
About 20 years ago , I was very close of buying the DE standarte from Hildesheim , but sadly for me , the guy decided to keep it .
