    East German Paratroopers

How many Paratroopers did East Germany have in total? Are there any websites that would give statistics and information on East German Militaria?

They had one Regiment, the "Luftsturmregiment"

They trained at the Training Area Lehnin near Berlin. There they even had Houses, subway stations ... to train the fighting in the streets of Berlin.

    Best regards

Any numbers would be a guess. but I assume there were not more than a reinforced bataillon; about 1000 men.

        Best regards

Forgive me if I'm highjacking this thread, but of those thousand "fallis" there must have been some men whose head size was 60, 61, or 62.

The largest sized beret that the NVA issued was nowhere near a 62 (my size, I'm afraid!). True, you can get one of the size 4 NVA berets onto a larger head, but you always wind up with a large open gap (actually a triangular shaped area) that's open in the back. Does anybody know what the guys with bigger heads did? Have a tailor fill the hole in with a similar colored piece of wool?

          Thanks.

          Jim

            Hmmm.

I think they did like they do still today. They have the common sizes in stock and if there is an extry small or extra big one they tailor him a fitting one.

            Best regards

              Rolf:

Try here...http://www.nva-fallschirmjaeger.de/ It's a good site with a lot of info except that I wish my ability to read German was better.

              Hope this helps,

              John
