    Verdienter Volkspolizist

    Greetings,

Do any of the members here have a Verdienter Volkspolizist medal
and / or images of one? I would like to compare mine with some
others out there. I do not have any of the other "Verdienter" series
but from all photo evidence this is the smallest of the series as far
as the actual size of the medal itself.

    Thanks

    KF

Is this the Polizei medal to which you were making reference?

If it is, I'd like to further assist but I'm not sure I fully understand the inference this is the smallest of the series of medals.

It is to my knowledge, no different in size than the other police medals.

The only medals that were different in size were the two versions of the early Medaille fuer treue Dienste in der Deutschen Volkspolizei Stufen II und III.
They were larger in size than all other DDR Volkspolizei medals.

        Hi Michael,

I was making reference to the other "Verdienter" Series such as

        Grenztruppen

        MfS

        NVA

This medal appears to be smaller than the other "Verdienter Medals"

          Hi Torsten,

I will see if one of the fellows here at work can take some detailed images
of my example and will try to post tomorrow.

                Thanks - got it.

                Okay,

The Verdienter Volkspolizist der DDR is 38.0 X 35.5 mm.

The first production NVA and Grenztruppen Verdienter Angehoeriger der DDR medals were 35.0 mm.
The second production (ugly in my opinion), which now included a version for the Zivilverteidigung der DDR were 35.0 X 38.0 mm.

The Zoll version was 35.0 mm.

There are a bunch more of course including the Kampforden, Vaterlaendischer and Staattsicherheit, all of which obviously are larger; and a whole slew of civilian ones that are all smaller.

The Verdienter ordern und medallian varied quite a bit in size, not just by which DDR Organ they were related to, but also dependent upon restrikes of the same Orden or Medallian years later after the first strike.

From what I can tell the Verdienter Volkspolizist der DDR was neither the largest nor the smallest of these type medals. There were smaller examples.

When you can, please post some pics of your Police Verdienter medal. And congratulations on acquiring it. They are rare and costly and a nice addition to any collection.

Attached are some examples just to show the variances in size (and shape too).

                  Hi Michael,

Are those your "kinder" ? Very nice selection indeed! Photos are in the works
and if they are not clear enough I will have another fellow do some more on
Thursday. Photos to follow soon, by the way that is a nice image (did you take
it?) - I am still an infant on the digital camera.
