    Olivier,

David H. is fairly certain the Tunic is alright.

Just waiting to hear from him with a thumbs up. As I noted earlier, I'm the one that is dubious and I above all else recognize that he without question knows his stuff. So if he gives a green light I'm definitely on board.

Plenty of time for Justin to go back in and get it. If someone should acquire it in the interim for the Buy Now asking price, then they have payed far too much for it, and Justin hasn't lost anything.

Just wanted to say that I read through this thread and want to thank everyone for their posts. As I'm new to all aspects of DDR uniforms, reading this thread taught me a few things. THX

I've not been ignoring this one, just trying to get some more info. I've asked the seller a few questions and I've only just received half the answers I wanted. So based on the info I have so far...

I actually don't have too much of a problem with the tunic itself and I like the label, but I'm coming to the conclusion it may have been completely stripped at some point. The insignia I think is ok, but the camera is playing tricks giving the threads a false cross hatch look. The insignia is all hand stitched no problem there apart no of the collar patches is upside down, but again I've seen that on plenty of original tunics. Now the odd bit on asking the seller the backing colour of the buttons he stated 'silver' at which point my alarms went off, leading to the conclusion it was a rebuild, of course He could have misunderstood my poor german, but probably not. Hopefully he will be sending some more pictures to me.

If it had not been for the button issue I'd have been happy with this tunic.

With the info I have to hand I like elements of this tunic, but until I get some more clarification, this is one of those occasions you'd know within 10 seconds of handling the tunic wether it was correct or not. The pictures alone are helpful but pose more questions than answers. I personally would not buy it at it's current asking price, especially when you figure in postage, if I could get it considerably cheaper I would consider buying it then.

I still like this tunic, my gut says this is a predominently original tunic with issues...... unfortunately the issues cannot be ignored... I'd love the seller to clarify my questions, hopefully he will, so I could say buy with relative confidence, but at the present I can't.

          Hi Michael, et. al.
          Of course.
My main concern is that this tunic is starting off at the 200 Euro mark which is usually a tip-off for me. Of course it is a slippery subject when dealing with a seller from another country, especially one where language is a barrier. German sellers in particular can be some of the greatest and some of the worst...but i think this is more of an ebay phenomenon. I usually triple think any purchase, sometimes losing out on it in the process, but i recall the few times i got burned on spur of the moment sales that turned out to be too good to be true. When you feel like you've got to have it, sometimes you lose your better judgement and fail to ask the questions you should. That being said, a well informed buyer is a happy buyer. Justin is wise to consult others before the purchase...of course, we're only able to go ff of what the seller reports...which of course can change once the item arrives.
As far as the insignia...the flash from the camera can obscure detail and enlarging the image just compounds the problem. If seller intentionally obscures information, or refuses to provide better quality pics....I tend to run.

I decided to pass on this one based on all the very much appreciated help form Michael and David.

Now the other one I bought without insignia I'm thinking might be the real deal, at least thats my gut feeling Even if there is a discrepancy it was only 60 euro I believe, significantly less than the 200 being asked for this one.

Here is the link to that one if anyone is interested.

As with the other tunic, this tunic is fine early example, you got it for a good price, if I'd have seen it I'd have bought it! Now it's time to start your hunt for the embroidered insignia.....

                Hi Justin,

Given that you already had purchased this example, and for a very much more reasonable price, I really think you made the right move passing on the other one.

This one you can for a nominal cost, refurbish to its original configuration and know it is right afterward.

                  Genossen,
Today my dark collar tunic arrived.

Open taking it out of the box, the first thing that struck me was just how much heavier, thicker, and more wooly it is than my early 70s ones.
Also it just feels of higher quality.

Inside with two pockets. Liner is really dark.

Anyone know what this little tab might be for?

Stand-Up collar- would this have been a individually tailored modification?
                  Former Wehrmacht maybe?
