    Something about an Ebay seller

2 days ago, I bought something on Ebay from a seller.
    The items are:
    2 visor hats,
20 pairs of em shoulder boards
    10 patches
    3 medals
Seller told me the total weight of the items was 8 lbs, therefore charges me shipping for that weight. I was very surprised to hear that. From my experience, 8 lbs are well enough for 2 complete uniforms w/ hats. So in order to know the fact, I weighed the exactly same items mentioned above and I got 3 lbs, with a box 4 lbs at most. I told the seller the weight I got and requested him to recalculate the postage, but he insisted they were 8 lbs, and said the hat was 2 lbs each, at this point, I realized he was not telling the truth because I got 1 lb for two hats. I canceled the order and reimbursed him his listing fees. I think this seller was trying to make money on shipping (international shipping fees are pretty high) and that's dishonesty, I will not do any business with this seller again.
Anyone interested can weigh the items yourselves and see what you get. I don't know if it's appropriate to give the seller's ID here, but anyone interested can PM me.

    Frank:

8 lbs for those items is ridiculous, unless he was shipping them in a wooden crate!

You're quite right, there's no way all that stuff should weigh more than 3 - 4 lbs, depending on the box. I think he was trying to milk a few extra bucks from shipping charges. Either that or he was an idiot - not someone you want to deal with in either case.

I think the 4 extra pounds are worth more then everything else.
What I dont understand, in Germany you can send a small packet for 2 Kilos w/o any insurance and tracing or 5 Kilos insured. 8 Pounds are 4 Kilos and won't match a 5 Kilo maximum. Maybe there was a big mistake in the Deal. For everybody: From Germany, the Minimum in a Packet is 5 Kilos. So if you only buy 3 Kilos, try to buy something more, not to give the Mail some free money for the saved weight.

I too think that something was lost in translation When dealing with people in Germany is it advisable to go fully METRIC, which is easy for me because I have never converted to Imperial and never will ...
Having said this, I have repeatedly come across Ebay dealers whose postage charges are weird, particularly from Russia and the Ukraine, and indeed how reasonable the cost of postage was, is an item on which we can leave feedback. I think everybody knows that Ebay sellers try to make a bit more money on inflated packaging and handling.

I forgot to say that this seller I mentioned above is an American one at ebay.com, and USPS shipping is by lbs.
Yes, most sellers try to make a little bit more on S & H, but I've never met one trying to DOUBLE the cost and telling obvious lies like this guy.
