The two gold colored awards are the last model NVA sport badge (sportabzeichen). Usually worn on the parade uniform on the upper right uniform pocket (in the middle under the button). Most officers wouldn't wear the sportabzeichen anymore. But some actually did, they could choose to wear it.

The abzeichen in the upper right corner is a Kampfgruppen bronze or gold (can't see) schiessabzeichen if I'm right. This medal was -as far as I know- awarded to members of the kampfgruppen and not to members of the NVA. I wouldn't know where you would wear it on the kampfgruppen uniform.. I suppose on the right breast. Kampfgruppen isn't in my collecting area.

The last abzeichen down under is a graduate badge of the people's police college (absolventenabzeichen). This was worn by officers of the Volkspolizei on the right breast above the button of the pocket right upper pocket.

Hey Joe - CONGRATS on your latest acquisitions...

        Thanks grenzflieger,

So two questions on the sportabzeichen, One it could only be worn on the parde uniform only? And two, could it be worn in conjuction with the Civil sportabzeichen?

And since I really know nothing (no lie) what is the differance between the NVA and Kampfgruppen?

And Thanks Ralph I'm slowly putting collection back together.

          Genosse,
The sports badge could be worn on other uniform dresses as well (diesntuniform, stabsdienstuniform, ausgangsuniform). If one was awarded the NVA sports abdge as well as a civilian one, they would wear the NVA sports badge, not the civilian one.

          Hope this helps.

The NVA is the last true German army... for real
The Kampfgruppen are a joke ...

Seriously though: the Nationale Volksarmee was a proper army counting 150-170.000 men divided between professional NCOs and officers and conscripts. All equipment was kept at top level of efficiency; 85% of each unit was in barracks at any one time ready to move in 45 minutes. Or at least these were the stated objectives, and many outside observers (from the West too) have remained impressed at the levels of readiness and training achieved by the NVA.

The Kampfgruppen was the para-military organisation of the factory workers. It basically counted as its members, people who were too old to do anything else from a military point of view. The KG probably represented the bottom of the "food chain" of equiment of the DDR. They are regularly to be seen with vastly obsolete equipment dating back to the Great Patriotic War (=WW2), and their haphazard footwear has also been noted. I gather that they were the butt of the jokes of the (younger) members of the regular army...
Nonetheless they appear to have some following amongst my esteemed colleagues in this Sceptred Isle, who will describe them as "the shock troops of the SED" =the party.
One prominent forum Genosse has suggested however that in order properly to reenact the KG, one needs a substastial abdominal girth !
Size G60 or BG60 = Besonders Größe =Special size or thereabouts...

I suppose you could think of the KGdA as the "Schultz" (from Hogan's Heros) of the East German military forces

Well I for one will not be looking for that set of footware to put into my collection.

Genosse, I fear you have your description of the issue of KdA kit round the wrong way. It is clear from such Historical Documents that the KdA were (as the much beloved armed wing of the SED) *first* in the food chain for kit and that the footwear above is a highly advanced prototype of a new kind of "sputnik teknology" based combat boot.

It is not clear how anyone managed to photograph this item during its highly secret field trials.... this matter has been reported to the relevant authorities!

The "highly secret field trial" apparently took place on the 15th of August 1961 in what is presumably Berlin (by the looks of it)...
Is the following then the TRUE interpretation of the August 1961 crisis?
A field exercise of the KG got a bit out of hand because of an over-enthusiastic commander... too eager to test the properties of alternative experimental footwear, and then tempers escalated a bit... nobody saw the joke.. and everybody found it difficult to come out in the open and admit that it was all a mistake... so in the end, they built a wall instead of admitting that it was all the fault of the KG and their footwear
Sounds plausible enough... I, for one, would build a wall to keep their footwear out of sight!
