    What a STEAL!

    Genossen,
My mind is boggled at the scale of issue I just won on ebay.de today:

    Why is my mind boggled?

I won it for 1 (One) Euro!!!

I don't want to spoil your joy, but if you have a look on Siegmund Stephan's website you will see that these piped early Schiffchen are being reproduced. Admittedly I have mainly seen fancy colour piping, i.e. yellow, pink etc. and not white. In any case for €1 even if it is a reproduction, you have done very well indeed! I am envious because I would love a reproduction of these to wear!

I did notice SS's repros. However the color on his look MUCH more green and his only have one row of edge stitching on the upper flap and a single row on the bottom. The one I just one appears to have double on top and non on the bottom.

Here is a picture of one of SS's repros:

Perhaps a Genosse with an original wouldn't mind posting a picture of theirs?

Even if it isn't original, for 1 Euro I have no reason to complain and it will be a nice display piece.

In the description the seller said the markings were DDR/I 57 180

It does look suspiciously immaculate for something that has been lying around for 50 years, even in a warehouse. On the other hand, there certainly are items of that age in such pristine condition, so while it's a red flag, it's only that and no more.

But as noted above, even for a repro, that's quite a nice price. As the French say, "Bon Marché!"

Um,, interesting. You might have been very very lucky here. Without seeing better pictures I don't want to get your hopes up too much...

So comments from the picture so far are

              Plus points
              1. The cut looks correct.
              2. It does not look like one of Stephans copies.

              Minus points
              1. The kokarde looks correct (from the angle) but seems a little rough around the edges and badly attached that worries me a little as the cap looks almost mint.

realistically the picture is not conclusive, post some better pictures when you get it and keep your fingers crossed.

For 1 euro you have lost nothing, I'd have taken the chance if I'd seen it.... if it turns out to be OK you will be up for score of the year so far...

Yes the cockade did throw me off a bit. Perhaps possibly it had a bullseye, then replaced with staatswappen, then replaced with bullsyeye agin?

Again though for 1 euro its not a major issue at all haha.

This year so far as been very good collecting wise!

I havn't recieved the hat yet but digging through some old threads I found some refrences ot the seller, Torsten Kuphal.
From what I have read, his items are orginal, but shipping takes rediculously long. I had it sent to a friend in Germany though, so perhaps it won't take as long.

I think it just might be the real deal. Lets hope.
