I came back from a work related trip to find a package at the door . . . . Thomas M. Forster's 1980 book, The East German Army: The Second Power in the Warsaw Pact. Looks like I know what i'll be doing this weekend

Is anyone familiar with a 1983 Militärverlag publication titled Armee für Frieden und Sozialismus or the book Das Grosse Buch der Nationalen Volksarmee?

Yes and AfFuS is a very good book. I would put it up there with Uniformen or any ot the coffee table format NVA photo books.

I have Armee für Frieden und Sozialismus, its a comprehensive history of the NVA. Mine was published in 1987 by Militärverlag der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik. Altough it's in German it has large numbers of small B&W and color photos as well as illustrations if medals and insignia, equipment, ranks, uniforms, etc. All tied to certain periods of NVA history.

It's only 6" x 8 1/2", but its is a thick 800 page book on which postage may be expensive if you get it from Germany.
