    2008 .... soon .... 2009 Good News?

    Greetings Fellows,

As 2008 draws to a close and the New Year is upon us can anyone here in
our forum share some good news about the progress of their collections?

Did You Add A Sought - After Item?

Did You Acquire Anything That You Thought You Wouln't Find?

Did You Reach a Goal That You Had Set For Yourself?

As The New Year is Upon Us - Any Collector Goals for 2009?

With all of the bad news out there in the world may we find some joy in
cyber-fellowship and in the proccess of collecting.

    Comments and Images always welcome!

Several dark collar tunics, including a wool Grenzer one. Can't complain about that! My Zeiss NVA DF 7x40 I got are nice too

Did You Acquire Anything That You Thought You Wouln't Find?
I didn't aquire anything I thought I wouldn't find, but there were certainly some things that popped up for sale that I was surprised to see, that 1956 signals piped tunic from a few months ago being one of them.

Did You Reach a Goal That You Had Set For Yourself?

Yes, to expand my Grenztruppen Leutnant impression, which i did very much so.

As The New Year is Upon Us - Any Collector Goals for 2009?
    More Grenztruppen stuff!!!

      Genossen,
This Rezident was given by one of his Genossen, a Shoe Finery Kit..

It is as nasty as it looks and has that Plastic DDR smell we hold aloft as a Banner.

I have searched for over Fifteen years for this Shoe Cleaning Complex, now even Genosse iannima gives me Admiring Glances...

It was this years High point and continued indication the Dialectic History is Conforming to the Norm laid out in Marxist Leninism Doctrine..

      WIR BUILD!.

2008 was a very good year or my collection. I was able to, basically, finish my Soviet and Mongolian collections (as much as is possible given my financial standing), nearly finish my DDR collection (with the same caveat), and seriously dive into my final collection- Bulgarian. A couple of highlights of this year have been obtaining a couple of very nice gold Dynamo badges complete with documents hand-signed by Erich Mielke, obtaining a couple of very nice SDAG Wismut badges and, recently, building a nice collection of medals and badges of the Bulgarian KDS/MVR. The coming year (or weeks) my well see an end to my "active pursuit" with regard to the collection, and a more passive approach to gathering giving me the time I need to catalog. Just in time for the financial crunch we're all now under.

I can't complain about 2008. I was able to pick up a few items that I had been looking for including a 1st style Blumentarn outfit with the vertical slash breast pockets dated 1959 and an early Zoll uniform with green piped breeches and a three button tunic (still looking for a set of early metal caduceui, without the wreath) for the collar tabs.

So, I will spend this year looking for this early insignia for the tabs as well as other early Polizei stuff such as a dark collar VP officer uniform. I know that these are two of my 2009 goals along with finding a P1001 Walther pistol clone that has not been mucked up with false "ac" markings by the improrter.

Hi Victor, your shoe polish kit is the real deal .. I had same when I was in the army, but if I remember correctly, then I had a brown bag and not the blue one that you managed to acquire. Where is the tin of shoe polish, though ... ???? Cheers, Torsten.

Pic below shows same type of shoe polish kit as used in anger. Pic was taken by me outside my door on a Friday sometime in 1988 ...

                    Genosse torstenbel,
That was not available, however I do have DDR Boot Polish..( I just heard Genosse iannima's ears prick up.. ) it is in a Black Pot, slightly smaller than the White Butter Dishes and of the same pattern that are about a while back, it has the DDR Warnings of it being a Poison of a certain group and smelt of Wood Alcohol...

Your Image is 100% Footwear Porn!!..

...Now do I get Admiring Glances Genosse iannima?...

Hello all - Well as 2008 comes to a close in a few weeks I can say I had a good year for collecting MfS groupings. So I overall reached my goal earlier this year and spent the remaining part of the year working on my second book. As for next year, I have been kicking around or I should say re-evaluating what I need to aquire next year for my MfS collection...in between saving money as we all are trying to do right now...for those unexpected phone calls..saying I got something for you...

Started this year with no East German items,

Now have a motorised infantry mans uniform and full webbing equipment, and working on a last pattern UTV set up aswel, only need a few bits, jacket, boots, rank patches DDR Flag for uniform, and a magazine pouch. (plus pistol holster just to have one )

Hopfully will get those finished next year and prehaps start up my own NVA airsoft group at my Univeristy (Swansea) and continue the fight against the agressive capitalists in a purely defensive and progressive way set down by the Marxist doctrine.

                              2008 procurements

2008 was a great year in finding trumpet banners for me!

I snagged 2 DTSB trumpet banners, several FDJ and JP banners, most with embroidered place names and/or unit names on them.

My best trumpet banner for 2008 was a VOPO trumpet banner. Magnificent piece! Still looking for NVA trumpet banners, but those will have to wait a long while, I am afraid for lack of cash.

I also acquired many flag pole tops such as GST, DTSB, JP, and NVA tops.
