Thoughts on 1956 pattern General's Winter coat

Appears to be an early 1956 pattern General's winter coat with Grenztruppen tabs/boards - see page 40 of Uniformen der NVA der DDR by Keubke/Kunz for an example as worn by the Luftstreitkrafte. Apart from the price, your thoughts?

Jeff,

The 1964 and the 1976 regulations show Generals and Admirals as wearing daggers through slits in the mantle. By 1986 they were being worn suspended from the parade belt outside the coat. The 1956 mantle had 10 buttons versus the 8 of the later regulations, so the dagger slit and the button configuration are correct. Not owning one of these early coats it is difficult for me to point out any inconsistancies. The best I can do is post my later issue Generals coat for comparison. The recent thread on this sellers practices put all items he offers for sale in doubt. We have correspnded on this point before and you know my fellings about purchases here.
As for price, who knows these days. I certainly wouldn't pay this price for it.

A closer lok at the collar and the tabs. Sorry that the phots are a bit blurry. Since I moved Iam having a hard time finding a place to take good photos of uniforms inside and it is raining in Budapest today!

Thanks Gordon for your thoughts. I like your winter coat. I'm actually looking for a latter one, like yours, for a GT General. They don't come up often, and this is the first early one that I have seen.

Good luck in your hunt for a late BG Generals coat. I would like one of those myself to go with my BG Generals uniform. Since there were only 27 BG Generals in the life of the DDR this is not an easy search for either of us! Much easier to get the NVA Generals coat and that came from ebay.de.
