The M56 helmet and post-reunion use

I would be very interested in the usage of the M56 with its distinctive colors or signs/badges/decals in the organisations from the former DDR
    and
the use in other countries in the world.

Every information is very welcome - especially informations about the not-so-often seen variations.. and maybe some pics..

Have a nice "Tag der deutschen Einheit" !

I've got a pic some where of Turkish troops using a woodland cover on it, there are many pics showing iots use in the Balkan's in the early 90's (as well as strichtarn uniforms and gear). I think the Syrians or Jordanians use it too.

M56 helmets were used in small numbers by Bosniaks, Croatians and Bosnian Serbs during Balkan Wars in 1990s. Often they were with self-painted markings.

Egyptian riot police still use them today. There was video I saw somewhere where they were wearing them. I think Turkish reservists still use them too but regular army is replacing with ballistic helmets.

      regards

As far as I know, the M56 was used by siria, in the yugo civil war, turkey ( donated by the new federal germany ), angola, ethiopia, and a few more
I have the german examples and one used by angola, grass green painted and with a national insignia.

I know that the North Vietnamese used several during the war and a lot of splotch pattern camo. Although this is pre union

Jägermeister - I've posted pictures of this helmet on the forum before.

Regarding the camo paint; the consensus was that it was destined for a warring party in the Balkans but never made it there.

Where the helmet was painted (it appears to be factory applied) and when has yet to be determined.

              Jaime - Nice picture!

This helmet appeared on Manion's during the past year or two.

This one made to the Balkans and taken into service by the Croatians.

                    Back to the Balkans.

A little bit off subject, but here we see a Merc wearing a Yugoslavian M1959 helmet with a field-made, rain pattern cover.

A sight that will surely get Genosse Viktor's blood boiling.....

Mercs weren't the only ones to use surplus flectarn material to make helmet covers, the Bundeswehr did it to.

In 1986, an M-56 helmet was featured on select pieces of Mozambiquen currency (see figure grasping the national flag on the right of the bill).

This figure is also carrying an NVA field flask.

Trident Militaria ( http://www.tridentmilitary.com/index.html) recently sold this M-56 that had been used by Bosnia Serbs.
