Early DDR canteen with strange markings

Can anybody identify markings on this canteen?

I would think it is the symbol (logo) of the firm [ V.E.B.] that produced the
item as opposed to some "unit" marking of any kind.

            Hello folks !
Can anyone tell me more about those canteens ?
What is the cap like ? Is it made of plastic or metal ? What colour ?
Was the leather strap riveted or sown ?
Would very muc appreciate some pictures if some of you have some time to spend on it !
            Thanks in advance !

I have got two of these. They are all in aluminium: flask, screwcap and becker. Do not recall the riveted or sewn issue, but I think they are riveted.

                  Strange Markings

I am bringing this thread back up because I found the same markings on some of my cups. But they appear to be overstamped. Of the three cups pictured, one is clearly marked DDRI and the other two are marked with that symbol. But, when you look from the inside of the cups, you can see that the original markings are all DDRI.
So the question is why would someone overstamp the DDRI markings with the factory symbol?

                  Lookinng inside...

My guess is that they were excess to military needs so the maker re-stamped them and sold on the civilian market in East Germany for camping. I remember a large sporting goods store on Leninallee in East Berlin that solid several civilian-ized versions of military style equipment like camping shovels, stoves and practice stick grenades with a solid wood handle and a metal cap.

Some of these old canteens have sewn straps and some have riveted straps. Here are a couple of mine for comparison:

I still use the old DDR canteens when hiking. I love the way they clank as you walk down the trail and the gurgling noises they make whe you tilt them up to your lips. Modern implements just can't compare!
