1962 officer belt - what to do?

    Genossen,

A while ago I bought this dyed-over officer belt, hoping to scrape off the black dye and therefore restore the belt to its former glory. Sadly, my attempt to scrape the black dye off also damaged the belt´s original brown finish (as you can see on the first photo).
So, here´s the question: What should I do now? Should I keep on scraping or just leave the belt as it is?

I assume you used dye remover before scraping. But if I where you I would start
looking for an other one. And if it doesnt specificaly has to be a 1962 one, it
should be fairly easy to get one.

But as for this one, I would leave it. But its hard to see how much damage there is.

I would leave the belt the way it is. The chances of having success in removing the black dye without damaging the brown underneath are next to none.

      Regards,

      Gordon
