Does anyone know where I cna find some early pictures of Berlin (mostly east but also the area around the Reichstag) and the soviet occupation zone? and by early I mean begening May 1945 to the 50s.\

Try this approach. Go to Google hit the images link and search for "Berlin 1945", then 1946, 1947, etc... Several period images should come up. I'd also recommend you try the same on Youtube. On your next visit to the library do a catalog search on books about Berlin. If it's a larger library there may be some photo books of this period.

There is a UK magazine called After the Battle which has then and now photos of famous battles. I recall that several years ago they did an issue on Berlin in 1945. You might be able to find this back issue of the immediate aftermath in 1945.

There are also some great late 40s and 50s movies that contain occupation footage with a bit of both US and Soviet zones. Unfortunately at the moment the only one I can think of is "The Big Lift" from 1950.

Another movie with lots of postwar Berlin footage that's a bit harder to find is a Rossellini film called Germania anno zero (Germany year zero) released in 1948.

It sounds to me as if you are looking for post war pictures of Berlin. If that be the case, then I recommend picking up a copy of the following book - they don't get any better:
