                Stefas,

If you note the response of Fransois-Xavier in Post # 13 of this thread, he advised the Open Collar Tunic for wear by all NVA Military Organs was conceived in 1972; shown to the Defense Minister and placed into production 1973; and first worn on parade in public, in 1974.

That is a very nice collection of historical photographs you have acquired. Super.

I particulary liked the Grenz picture in front of some type of what appears to be a Soviet Memorial, with both a Soviet and and NVA guard present.

The Soviet Uniform is very intriguing and unless Victor will volunteer some information about it, we might have to get help from our Commie Bloc sister sub-forum members to identify it.

The NVA uniform is quite interesting as well, with the guard wearing a white in color Sam Brown type belt. He also appears to be wearing a lot of awards and decorations for a regular enlisted servicemember. More than you commonly see on soldiers of this rank.

                A very interesting picture indeed.

The first public apparition of the new uniform was for the parade of the 7th october 1974. October 1975 is the date of use of the open collar tunic as service uniform.

This man is a soviet soldier. He's wearing the 1955 pattern uniform for honour guard company.
