Social Function Tunic Question

What is the proper method for attaching the collar tabs to the Social Function Tunic: sewing or using the metal prongs on the back of the tabs? Can anyone place a picture up that shows the proper position for the collar tabs?

Also is this the same for the VoPo Social Function Tunic also?

Hello,I would sew them with a machine.Sometimes you see it with the prongs.I don't know if they did it in these times,but it looks realy cheap.

I have an Grenztruppen Gesellschaftsanzug. The collar tabs are machine sewn
with the metal prongs, only going trough the top layer.

Hm never noticed but indeed. I just checked and the tunic is marked L.

I meant to ask how the collar tabs were originally applied -- sewn or stuck on with the metal prongs.

Sewing on the tabs looks better, but if the collar tabs had to be removed to have the jacket dry cleaned, sticking on with the prongs seems to be a better way.

Originally the collar tabs are sewn on. Taking them off for dry cleaning seems a bit
of a hassle. I don't think they removed them.

I picked up several larger sized Army Gesellschaftsanzug a few years back. They still had the factory tags and collar tabs were all machine sewn. Kevin

Thanks for the input. I guess with the labels still attached that is pretty much proof that the collar tabs were sewn on. I was looking at a VoPo Gesellschaft tunic at the Trident Military site and the owner said that although the tunic did not have the collar tabs, they were simple to put on because they were just attached with the prongs (which did not sound right to me)

Using the Prongs, was a common way of fixing in the VP, but seen only 2 times on used Army Tunics as they normally had a Tailor on Post other as the Police where the Uniforms are supplied to the Police Stations when needed and to save the Costs for the Tailor the punched the Collar and fixet the prongs.

I have Grenztruppen tunic that has collar tabs fixed with prongs but I think this is rather rare. But then the same officer used paper clips to repair several buttons that fell off so it figures.

I remember on the old Gunboards forum there was a thread about how Machine sewn tabs are preferred, Hand sewn tabs not as preferred, and Prong attached tabs not preferred at all or something along those lines...
