That completes the collection.

I know many will think I'm lucky to have acquired what I received. I agree that the collection in and of itself is quite nice. I can live with the fact that the certificates and medals were not all for one person, but instead for two people. I can replace the silver NVA Verdienste medal that was not included.

But, it was an expensive acquisition, and an irreplaceable medal and irreplaceable certificate were not included. The fact the missing certifcate and missing serial numbered medal were not included spoils what would have been an otherwise very nice set. Without them, it is incomplete and always will remain so. More importantly, I bid on this set expecting to receive all certifcates and medals represented by the seller to be auctioned. That they were left out of the lot is to me, not okay.

Yes, I can email you "Closeup" Pictures of the entire certificate and his application to attend the academy with no problem. If you will PM me and inclose your personal email address I will respond with the photos.

I've talked this over with David H. and we suspect that because Manfred BOHMAN started his military career in the KVP in 1954, he may not have ever attended an academy during his initial career. Consequently, in 1956 he would have already been an officer when he transitioned over to the NVA and would have automatically bypassed the normal NVA Academy and his civilian high school graduation certificate would have been at that time all that was needed. Apparently, something in the 70s changed and he was for some reason in a position that compelled him to attend a military academy. For whatever reason, he attended the MdI academy.

It certainly would be of great interest to me if you could shed some light on this as the presence of the Police Academy Certificate awarded an NVA Officer certainly exemplifies how little we who collect this memorabilia really understand about the DDR.

Very nice set Micheal!!!!.it happend often that one person gets 2 NVA verdienst medals off the same level.I saw several medal and I bars with it.
I've got some medals with the awards from a grenztruppen officer.He had the MDI verdienst in silver and an ehrennadel rechtspflege.
Maybe some tasks where over lapping each other???and would a police academie the best choise???
Police officers also went to military academies.

Mike in reference to post 32; your discussion with David and why he went to the academy years later was plasuable. Some people may have been noticed years later that they had qualities or stood out over others and their leadership let them apply to a academy to further their education.

Mike - I understand you have heard it from everyone else, but one thing to consider about this MdI grouping is as you have already touched on earlier is that they are husband and wife team. I am not sure how it is for MdI husband and wife groupings, but for me when it comes to husband and wife groupings of the MfS. They are interesting and worth more. Right now I own at least four husband and wife MfS groupings of which they have been interesting to go through.

Thanks for the comments. However, it must be kept in mind that this collection was originally thought to be for a single entity - an NVA Armour Officer, named FISCHER. If that had held true, then there would be providence given the set was acquired from the former wife of said officer.

I suspect your husband and wife collections do in fact have providence, and consequently I would agree with you that they are of additional interest given what they are.

The trouble with the set I acquired is that I have no idea who these people were nor solid proof of their association to one another.

I can presume a great deal, but providence does not exist.
