Comparison of early and late NVA peaked caps

    Gebts,

I thought it might be of interest to some to postan early, 1963, peaked cap and a peaked cap with the interim period cocakde (June to Oct 2 98) for comparison.
First, lets start with the 1963 cap. It is a little shorter, from a flat surface to the top of the front, than later caps. It is also better constructed and made of much better material. One thing that shows up very well in this series of photographs is the different direction of the twist on the cap cords.

    Regards,

    Gordon

A front view of the later cap. While this cap is marked as being made in 1978 (U) it appears to have had the cocakde installed some time later as the prongs do not go through the lining. This is not something that is easy to do. Most of the caps I have seen with the West German cockade added simply have the prongs on both parts of the cap badge pushed through the lining material before being bent over.
