    Updated Belt Buckle?

    Genossen,

A while ago, I ordered some things and with it I got
a field buckle, free. Always nice of course.

But does anyone know if these where updated to the new
    standards like the helms?

At least thats what I think, when I look at the top
buckle (the one in question). The lower one is a
dress buckle of an old type. With the old bar still
in place. Looking at the one above it seems like
at about the same place are welding marks.

Of course this could be from use, but than I still wonder
if such updates did happen to buckles also.

Who know's. Many funny things happened in the DDR, but I think the markings are from other reasons. I think, even in the DDR it was to expensive to do that as it was possible to have the Belt with the right counterpart much cheaper.

the marks on the first buckle will be from use. if you look at a field belt, then you will see that there is a metallic strip kind of thing just behind the eyelid for the catch and it will have been that which made the marks. cheers, torsten.

          I agree with Torsten...
I've seen this on just about every issued buckle I have.
Though it is an interesting Idea...the thought that the dDR re-tooled the belts to fall in line with later models...but given the thrifty nature of the dDR and NVA, it would be a bit impracticle.

I thought it would probably be from use, but I liked the idea also.
I have two other field belts, in mint condition but one is showing
some use in the same area.
