    Happy B-Day, Karl

For those who care, and I expect there are a few here who do, today is Karl Marx's birthday.

Since I brought it up, how did they celebrate Marx's birthday to in the NVA, and the DDR in general? Coming so close to May 1, did it get more or less overshadowed?

I assume they at least had the good taste not to follow America's "President's Day" model, and piggyback the two events together... I've always felt that Washington and Lincoln deserved better than that, I'd think the DDR would have showed old Karl some respect.

it was not really celebrated as such and no special events took place, unless it was a round birthday or death anniversary. 1953 was a big one for the 70th anniversary of his death for example. Cheers, Torsten.
