    1974 VoPo Tunic

    Genossen,

More pieces of my collection. This one, would be the first piece I got
for my DDR collection, long before I actually started collecting DDR.

A 1974 VoPo tunic. It doesn't has any green piping, which is only for BePo as
far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong).

Only thing is that it doesn't have any collar tabs, anyone know what kind
would go on this one, the old type with a tread around the tab or the single
tread metal ones on a black base?

    Stamps inside.

The small pocket on the lower left inside. I believe these where used to
carry a small bandage package with you.

The shirt with tie, this actually the one I first had on the Wach-Rgt. F. Dzierzynski
officers tunic. That one has a correct NVA shirt now. I only need to get a set
    of Wachtmeister shoulder boards.

Nice thing is that the shirt is also dated 1974.

And the hat. To bad this one isn't dated O, but N 1989.

    Enjoy,
    Selwyn

    Selwyn,

Your early unpiped tunic was worn by either regular VP or Bepo during this time period. Your shoulder boards are regular VP so you need a set of standard NCO collar tabs with dark green (not black) backing and metal litzen. The flat piped collar tabs are for lower ranks.

Like these but with the dark green backing instead of the light green color shown.

First thought these where with black backing, but at second thought
and look they probably have a green backing.

Those are the correct ones that match your NCO shoulder boards.

I managed to get two sets of VoPo collar tabs:

              Small base 3,5x6,5 cm

              Large base 4x7 cm

I think I need to put the small base ones on, but
I'm not sure so thats why I wanted to ask for sure.

Next to these I found Stiefelhose:

The small collar tabs are generally earlier so would be fine for your tunic. The breeches are also nice and would be proper with your tunic.

Does anyone know the measurements for placing the collar tabs?
Like the spacing from the edge to the tabs, or can someone check
                    on there tunics?

                    Thanks in advance.

I believe that these metallic collar tabs were introduced only in 1980.

I must apologize, you are absolutly correct. I completely missed the "O" date on the tunic.

Having said that, these unpiped tunics were worn with the the collar tabs with metal litzen and photos show both types of tabs worn around 1980. The tabs with metal litzen would be fine to restore the tunic to this time period. If you want to restore the tunic to when it was made in 1974 you should put soft cloth NCO tabs on it with flat wire litzen on dark green backing and light green piping.

I think I'm going for the one with the metal litzen. Since I like those
better and besides that, I have those.

Not to long ago I got these three paper ribbon bars in:

                          Top bar:
                          Verdienstmedaille der Organe des MdI
                          Verdienstmedaille der Organe des MdI
Medaille für ausgezeichnete Leistungen in der bewaffneten Organen des MdI

                          Middle bar:
                          Medaille für Verdienste im Brandschutz
Ehrentitel Aktivist der sozialistischen Arbeit (3x)
(would this bar fit on a 1983 Berufs Feuerwehr NCO tunic)

                          Bottom bar:

Anyone can tell me which one (top or bottom) would be best on this tunic?

                            Update:

Recently I managed to get this belt,

Stamped S, 1975. At least I think thats the date stamp.
Would go nice with the date of the tunic.

Besides this I also got a set of bandages for in the lower inside pocket.

                            Front bandage:

                            Back bandage:

                            There from 1973.
