    KVP Medal Question

I have been out of collecting DDR for several years and looking to get back into the game. However, I have lost track of what things are currently worth and would appreciate your expert advice on this KVP medal. This medal is numbered 017411 on the reverse. Looks like original leaterette case. Seller is asking $150. Is this a fair price?

    Thanks,
    John

    John,

It looks like a nice original cased award but overpriced IMHO.

I will let others comment on value as well. I would take a look at German ebay for current values at what they actually sell for as opposed to asking prices.

A few years ago, I purchased a similiar medal with leather case for around $90.00.

I'm asking 140 Euros for Medal / matching Document. The lowest No. I have is a 12xx.No. They get really hard to find in original as they start to fake them Präwema sold the dies in an Auction 2 Yrs. Ago.
It's the same with all High ranking or old Medals.

          Hi,

          today on ebay.de:

KVP medal and document, No. 002381: for 55.55 Euros, a normal price in Germany.

Actually it went for EURO 51.00, which is about $75.18.

As this included a Certificate (Urkunde), and presumably both the medal and certificate are numbered identically (that is the idea, anyway); this was probably below the normal selling price. But don't tell anyone.

If the seller sells / ships only to Germany, a price usually stays quite low. Probably there's less interest for german collectors than from other countries, who don't have a convenient flea market nearby.

                My experience has been different.

The seller that sold the KVP medal and Urkunde also sold a complete Dark Collar Color-piped (Pink) Ensemble, and just the Tunic alone was at EURO 700 before it was pulled by the seller from the ebay auction. That is the highest one of these Tunics has ever sold on ebay. And it obviously went for even more, as it was pulled.

Anyway, its been my experience German sellers on German Ebay when contacted, are almost always willing to sell outside of Germany. The German ebay system is automatically set for Germany only. Many of the Sellers don't bother to change the normal setting when auctioning off memorabilia. But when contacted, they have no problem selling to people outside of Germany.

That was the case with the KVP medal earlier referenced. Sold to an American bidder.

Yup, that "unknown" American bidder won at least 7 E-bay auctions for medals with certificates for the same seller. I was tempted to bid on the Bronze Waffenbrüderschaft, but I'm secure in the knowledge that it and the others are going to a good home with a forum member.
