Photographs of the SECOND Gr. Wachaufzug

If you do not check regularly the website of our dear friend Gefreiter Werner, you are really missing a treat...
    http://www.augengeradeaus.de/grosser...zug_fotos.html
He has just been sent photgraphs of the second Große Wachaufzug on the 8th of May 1962...
Here are some examples, they are too beautiful not to reproduce them. Thanks are again due to Werner for his excellent work on that website...

Notice that they have no cuff title.

    Ablösung... Im Exerzierscritt Marsch!!]

Notice the devastation of the landscape. You obviously cannot see the Palast der REpublik which had not been built yet and you can make that tower which I have yet to understand to which church it belongs. It is a long way away in any case... Is the long white building what remained of the Schloß?

I am not sure whether this is the Abmarsch or not. The devastated landscape offers very few clues as to where they might be. Notice as in the previous photograph the difference in height between the officer commanding the troop and the members of the Fahnenkommando

The picture in post one is easy to identify...I've included a recent foto of the Alte Bibliothek which is now part of the Humboldt Universität...

I highlighted a few reference points...
It is diagonally across from the Neue wache and the Zeughaus...so they are Marching away from the Brandenburger Tor in the direction of Alexanderplatz.

                  Hi all,
I want to say that Pic #2 shows the remnants of the facade of the Berliner schloss...but it was ripped down much earlier...The 3rd pic is definetely the back of the Friedrichwerdersche Kirche....with one of the towers depicted in the picture...this is the only structure close enough to where the parade would have that fits the description...of course there are the tell-tale spires and the rounded back end of the church...
A recent foto of the church is below

I'm still looking into the accurate dates of the Abrisse of the Schloss...I'm almost sure that everythin was gone by the time this pic was taken....but the only other possibility would be either The French or German Tower of the Gendermenmarkt...but this is inconsistent with the location...as the picture with the Friedrichwerdersche Kirche in th background has the same crane in the foreground...as the Church is to the east ands the Gendermenmarkt is to the west,,,it is impossible for the the last foto to be the Gendermenmarkt...
I just came across this picture...
Obviously taken from the west looking east...towards the tribune der SED which was the site of the old schloss and then the Palast der rEpublik...of course it is also the site of the new Schloss.

I've got a map of what was left after the 2nd world war in Berlin...I;ll have to see what this building is.....In light of the last pic...this is definitely not the Schloss, nor is it the Gendermenmarkt...
                  MsG,

I know it's a bit late for a reply... but the 1st photo is opposite Babelplatz, next to the German State Opera and the Alte Bibliothek.

But it is always good to have another look at these photographs thanks for providing the opportunity. Unfortunately some years ago the excellent website of augengeradeaus went offline and I have lost track of any updates. I miss it very much
