    Field Gun Cover

This field gun on display at Sinsheim, BRD, in 2002 had a cover that was very close to Blumentarn, but not quite. Unfortunately, it was unlabeled.

      Gents,

I thought I would bring this thread back up to add information on a 1st style Blumentarn jacke that I just aquired. It has the two vertical pockets on the front of the chest as would be expected and is dated II/59. It is also marked "DDR 2" which I believe to be size 2 in the old NS Zeit size manner. I notice a couple of differences between this style jacke and the later hooded ones. First, the plastic buttons are sewn on instead of being removable. Second, the hood has no strap attachment to roll it into a collar. Third, the hood has the standard face veil with paper buttons instead of plastic and two metal helmet clips. Are these common features to this very early Blumentarn jacke?

It is not just the pockets... It appears to be closed by a zipper unheard of... Now everything is obviously possible with an experimental outfit and in 1960 they could still have been experimenting with it. But I would be a bit uneasy about those zippers, becauuse they are conspicuous by their absence in NVA unforms as this one is presumably supposed to be. They do appear in Pilots' gear. Was this meant to be the camouflage outfit for a pilot?

What is really puzzling me is that the markings really ook like original ones !!

[...] was just thinking....or possibly an original one from 1960 modified later on... would be interesting to see the pockets from the inside to see what kind of material was used...

                Genossen,
Is it a DDR Zip?, I'm sure if you were to make up a garment, you would be unlikely to use a DDR Zip as they is poor....

The jacket reminds me the Soviet pilot TTsKO jacket.
