DDR Guys--TR Hat Guys Need an Assist!

    Guys:

Over on the Cloth Headgear forum we are a little (ok, a lot) obsessed with maker labels, and whether or not a cap is wartime, or immediate postwar, especially as it concerns the premier maker of the III Reich, Robert Lubstein ("Erel") which you all know by "Emhage" after the state took it over in 1948.

This hat (on ebay.de right now) may be a missing link of sorts, and the seller identifies it as Trapo. Can any of you tell us if it conforms to any known DDR agency? Any help would be appreciated.

Its a general cap... I'd put my bet on VOPO, though. TRAPO caps had blue piping.

            Well...

The seller states it is blue-grey in his ebay lisiting and says he does not know what it is. I cannot really tell from the photographs. If it is a model 1948 Volkspolizei cap it should be navy-blue. If it is grey (perhaps blue-grey) it would be a bus driver cap. We have discussed the green piped grey bus/tram cap on the forum before. Difficult to tell which, or exactly what, it is from the photos or the description. I presume a cap that is this early would have a press board visor. It has a chance of being a VP cap but one would have to know more about the attachment of the buttons, star, and the way the chin cords are made in MHO.

I think the Seller has incorrectly described the hat. I also think in the first picture, the flash washed out the color.

Pictures two and three appear to provide a more accurate color rendition and representation.

Thanks, Mike--we believe that Erel was using their left-over Lubstein celluloid labels (which they stopped using in 1939) for high-ranking DDR caps.
