I doubt it was/is genuine/original. There is not enough detail to see to say it is a Truppenfahne.

The flag was most certainly a real one, I'll see If I can get a better picture of it. Chris

Is anyone going to the Jefferson Barracks Living history Weekend, 25-27 April In St. Louis MO.? We are going to set up a NVa/Kampfgruppen display. Join us if possible!

After almost a year, my NVA kit is still not complete, but better than last time I showed photos. I will "reenact" NVA later photo.

Currently this is my field gear set-up for late 1970s-early '80s Motorised Rifles Unteroffizier. I know AK74 pouch is incorrect - having difficulty finding AKM version.

          regards

I wasn't able to get a better pic of the NVA truppenfahne yet but here is a pic of my NVA kit. Chris

Wow!! Is that a genuine split cuff tunic? With subdued insignia apparently. What about the gasmask bag? Is it Russian? Very very nice in any case!

The split cuff tunic is one that I made for reenacting use. The gas mask bag is a Soviet WWII hand-me-down as is the Nagant rifle and ammo pouch. I'll try to get some more pics up soon. Chris

How did you make the splitcuff tunic? I have always been interested in putting together 1950s NVA kit.

I made it from an old ragged out dark collar tunic and pair of trousers. It serves well for an early style field tunic. It turned out very well. I based it off of detailed pictures of original split cuff tunics. The real ones are very tough to find! Chris

                      hey guys,

I'm thinking of putting together a 1980's NVA set up, Private, Motorised Infantry,
I don't know much about the NVA,
can anyone give me a rough list of equipment i'm going to need?

                      thanks

A list might be difficult... Would this photograph help? At least to get you started?

Incidentally I notice that you are based in Wales. Will you be coming to Beltring this July?

Check out my photo in next post. Shows basic fieldgear setup for motorised rifles in 1970s-early '80s. NVA adopted AK74 in 1980s and some items changed slightly. In my setup, M59 bayonet for AKM and older pattern y-straps and shovel carrier are used. Mag pouch should be for AKM as well but harder to find.

                          For mid-late 1980s, fieldgear include:
                          - grey web belt
                          - grey web y-straps
                          - entrenching tool with grey plastic-leather carrier
                          - AK74 magazine pouch
                          - canteen
                          - bayonet for AK74
                          - chemical suit
                          - rubberised gasmask bag w/ SchM41 gas mask

                          regards

Very basic schematic labeling of fieldgear setup I posted earlier. Just research the period you are interested in to be correct. btw Ak74 mag pouch is wrong for this set-up.

1 - chemical suit w/ carrying bag (Schutzanzug mit Tragetasche)
                            2 - y-straps (Tragegestell)
                            3 - belt (Koppel)
                            4 - magazine pouch (Magazintasche)
                            5 - entrenching tool (Klappspaten)
                            6 - canteen (Feldflasche)
                            7 - bayonet (Seitengewehr)
                            8 - SchM41 gasmask w/ carrying bag (SchM41 Gasmaske mit Tragebüsche)

                              Thanks Klaus and iannima,

No I don't think i'm going to Beltring, i'm in university an money going to be tight over the summer unless I find a job.

I saw this on ebay, what is it?

That is a Sturmgepäck (assault pack). Either Teil 1 or 2 (possibly 2 but Matteo will know ). The grey things are y-straps - those are the model you will need. The pack clips onto them (y-straps detachable but frequently sold with pack) and is left in transport. Either zeltbahn (Teil 1) or wool blanket (Teil 2) is worn strapped to pack.

                                regards
