Hello Dirk - Thanks for your comment.

What type of re-search are you doing with the pictures of the other numbers and including 3000 to 3100?

After talking with Michael Gallagher about acquiring one of these awards he told me that he had an extra one that he was willing to part with. So after a brief discussion we agreed on a partial trade for a Rückwärtige Dienste, Hauptfeldwebel tunic and the remainder in cash. Michael was very fair and gave me a great price on the badge (pics are posted below).

A lot has already been said about the different emissions of this award in the above thread so I will not really go into that much detail concerning that. What I will share is some addition information that I learned while researching this award that was not previously discussed.

The Decoration of the German’s People Police was created in 1949 by the MdI, and became an official award by decree of the Volkskammer. The award Originally began as a badge that was worn center, above the left breast pocket of the service tunic. As already mentioned, the badge had three emissions then converted into a medal. The award was presented for outstanding achievements, personal bravery and faithful service in the area of law enforcement and for the protection of the DDR and the German people.

The awarded was presented twice a year on the Day of Police, July 1, (the anniversary date of the founding of the Volkspolice), and on October 7, the anniversary of the founding of the German Democratic Republic.
The award could also be presented immediatley following an act of bravey or a great achievement but was normally reserved for the above mention days. It was presented by the Minister of the Interior and the Head of the Volkspolizei (Chief of Police) during an elaborate ceremony.

The medal could only be issued one time to a recipient and came with a financial allowance. The award could also be presented to members of the MfS who worked both overtly and covertly within the Volkspolizei ranks.<O

Hello all - I am providing addtional information related to John's first post from a MfS perspective about the Ehrenzeichen der Deutschen Volkspolizei Award.

The MfS were also presented the award during the period John mentioned, but they were also presented the medal on 08Feb. Further, there are known members of the MfS that were presented the medal multiple times throughout the Cold War. I hope this assists...

            Hi,

            John F.:
"The Decoration of the German’s People Police was created in 1949 by the MdI"

Sorry, but that is not correct, please see here, Post 10:

            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...t=ehrenzeichen

It was the "Deutsche Verwaltung des Innern in der Sowjetischen Besatzungszone"

            John F.:
"The medal could only be issued one time"

Sorry, but that is not correct, please see here, Post 5:

            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...t=ehrenzeichen

It could be twice or more.

            Stefas:
"Why did they give the bronze medal that late??"

I don't know it, but it was obviously usual, see the comment from Frank Bartel in his book "Band I Staatliche Auszeichnungen" page 106, No. 143b) "Urkunden 1955 für die Stufe Bronze wurden nachträglich ausgestellt".

But is was normal, first to have the Stufe III, next Stufe II and than the medal in Gold. As example in my collection:
            - Stufe III (5 years) 1955
            - Stufe II (10 years) 1956
            - Gold (15 years) 1960.

            Uwe

              Hello Ralph!

The yellow field in the flag is completely "gekörnt" (highest number is 3000). And then the yellow field in the flag partially "gekörnt" - what number?

Your "Ehrenzeichen" is awarded in the Year 1953.

Hello Dirk - Maybe the medal was made in 1953, but I know it was awarded in 1954. What are your thoughts that maybe the medal was made in 1953?

I have a document from 01. July 1953 with the number 1005 - and i think, the number 1105 is also awarded in 1953.

Very nice awards! I've been searching for an early version of the EDV badge for quite some time, when and if I find one, about how much should I be prepared to pay?
                      Thanks!

Something about having a serial number medal with the issue
document that turns my head , even though I don't collect

anyone know when VoPo unit flags were first issued, and if
such medals were awarded with documents to unit flags? Sorry
if my question is a bit off topic, but I'm just always vexilated.

                                Hello Ralph!

Thanks for posting the documents. Very interesting!

Sorry for my english - is not so good!

Award documents (Urkunden) from the Year 1954 are "Very Hot"

All active Members of Volkspolizei, KVP, Grenzpolizei and Staatssicherheit get the "Ehrenzeichen DVP" in the years 1949-1953/54 received on 01. July 1954 NEW award documents with date from 01. July 1954. The old documents from 1949 until 1953/54 were returned.

The "Ehrenzeichen DVP" was a Decoration from the "Ministerium des Innern". Only 28. May 1954 it is a state Decoration from the DDR - and there were new award documents.

The first date in the document of 1954 is the right date - not the 01. July 1954!

Can you me say this Date - i can not reading. Also the date of the booklet.

                                Thanks!
                                Dirk
