Your Tschako looks like a nice original Volkspolizei Tschako from the photos.
Collectors should be very careful with these at the moment as there are quite a few fakes coming out of Germany now. One can see them on ebay.de. There is a thread on the fakes somewhere here on the forum with some photos I had posted. FYI, I have seen two styles of fake VP Tschakos coming out of Germany. The first has this old style star plate on the front and has an odd and entirely incorrect suspension system and liner. The second, has the second style plate and seems to have a much better liner and a more proper suspension system. So, it seems the fakers are learning from their mistakes. Probably from watching forums such as this to make their reproductions better.
I have also been informed that the manufacturing source of at least some of these is a maker in Pakistan. They are sold to German dealers @ $50 each (US) if ten or more are ordered at one time.

You're right. they're faking everything. This one came from an old DDR Collection. The father or uncle (he was talking so much that I can't remember 100%) of the collector was a MfS Major in Potsdam and got all the things for him. Also the posted 54 Helmet. Now they're selling everything and always when I or a friend have some Money, we buy the Stuff. got also some nice US WW2 Medals from that collection.
