    early West Berlin Police Hats

    Hi all,

I didn't know where else to post it and I think it fits quite good in the DDR Forum.

I was the first Time on Flea Markets in Berlin today...
i have to say up front, I do not really like Berlin flea markets. just far too many professionals(Dealers) there and too many "hunters". I prefer my local "Suburban Flea Markets"
The one I can recommend in Berlin is the Flea Market in the Goerzallee.
The one at Ostbahnhof has professional Vendors only and the one at Strasse des 17, Juli is also far too dear.

At Goerzallee, I picked up these 2 nice looking West Berlin Police Hats early in the morning.

The Skimütze I have seen in Nicos Shop not long ago.
I have a Question about the Officers Visor Hat. Can anyone tell me what period this one is?
I have seen those with metal Insignia from the 60`s period. This one has very nicely made Bullion Insignia and I would say its a nice saddle shaped 50's period Example but thats just speculation.
I hope Nico may can help me further to determine a Date on the Visor Hat.

btw, I picked them up because they looked nice and are not very common but they are actually not thought for my own Collection,so Im going to put up both Hats as a Set on the E-Stand as soon as I have more specific Data for both.

here are the pics, starting with the Skimütze

Nice caps Andreas even if I do not collect these as well.

Can you tell me if the Goerzalle Flohmarkt is in Steglitz-Zehlendorf? I have never heard of this Flohmarkt.

no, not much compared to local Flea Markets deep in the East. For me, its not worth it to go to Berlin Flea markets for "hunting DDR Stuff"

                          @ Thälmannpionier:

The blue uniform became obsolete in 1976/7, only the silver belt buckle, the dark blue/grey plastic parka and the Kradmäntel were still used until the mid eighties.

The "Skimütze" was called Bergmütze but the correct term was Feldmütze. And like the visor hat, ca. 1960 - 1976.

In the fifties the visor hats had no police stars.

                            Thank you Sven

I only have seen the Visors with Metal Insignia. Is there a specific date when it changed from Bullion Insignia to Metal Insignia? Or does this depend on Police Officer and normal Police Meister?
                            Regards
                            andreas

Blue uniform, metal = einfacher & mittlerer Dienst, embroidered = gehobener & höherer Dienst on the visor hat. But that's what I remember from my childhood. My books are not very helpful...
The father of my best friend in primary school was a Hauptkomissar (Revierleiter) and at this time they hat to wear the uniform at the way to/from service. So I know he had an embroidered one.
Our neighbour was at the same time Polizeiobermeister at the Verkehrspolizei, if I remember correctly he had the same metal police star at his visor hat like at your Bergmütze.

I start with the bronze one matching the green/brown/yellow uniform by Oestergaard (1976) in 1980 The same star for all branches, ranks and for visor hat and baret. Just the two older types of the olive drab Feldmütze for the Einsatzanzug (BDU) had small embroidered stars.

PS.: The Wasserschutzpolizei had a star with oakleafes around and also embroidered IIRC.
