There were Soviet clocks to buy in the GDR. In all price ranges. My very first wristwatch was a RAKETA (1972) - I have it even today! And it functions flawlessly. Later i wore a SLAVA automatic and one of the first soviet quartz-watches (a hugh piece with two batteries inside...)
GDR-watches i did not like. Glashuette was too expensive (and had no gimmicks like date and weekday or like that).
Ruhla-watches worked half a year and then started to annoy the owner, while over and over again something broke. Then one had surely soon no more desire on repair and bought another clock to himself.

Not easy to buy were the soviet KOMMANDIRSKYA-watches by WOSTOCK.
I love that watches and collect them today. With a little luck a soviet officer sell his one or you got one in the "Magasin"...

I had thought that Ruhla would have a better quality than that. So far mine is still working (No idea how long it has been in use by other owners or if it's ever been repaired) althought it has the same problem as most of my Soviet watches, over 24 hours they are too fast by about 5 minutes.
The other watches I have are a Raketa manual, a Polet quartz, and a Elekmronstka 5 digital. The Polet/polyet is the only one I could rely on to keep time accurately.

That was the problem, Gollob. Not one Ruhla-watch worked like the other! The one (like you) got one that works perfectly (so far) and the next got a destaster-one. My soviet watches always worked better than Ruhla.

Ruhla was usually poor quality and had a bad name for it in the DDR...all the watches that I owned in the DDR were Ruhla watches...but I am tempted by the Ruhla Diver's watch...only I have just got myself a new watch a couple of months ago...Cheers, Torsten.

                      Hi Humberto,

Ruhla and Weimar were closed. Glashuette is working again, but partet in several firms: Lange & Soehne and Glashuette.

                      Ciao,

Oh yes, Humberto. The quality of Glashuette-watches today is very high and unpayable... (at least for me... )
