yes, this is the shoe cleaning utensil of NVA. You could by it in different colors in the MHO. I had one in red (weapon color of the artillery ).

you could buy at it the MHO, but it was not actually an NVA issued Schuhputzzeug...or was it? I seem to remember bringing mine with me from home (it was one of the things on the leaflet that we were told to bring) and then of course I kept topping it up with replacment items from the MHO...Cheers, Torsten.

Torsten,
like many other things it also was not produced especially for the NVA. One could buy it also in camping and sports goods stores (SPOWA). There was no exclusively for the NVA produced shoe cleaning utensil. And, you are fully right, one had to bring a set of it with from home for the conscription.

Dag, Dirk and Torsten. Were all of you issued the strichtarn panzeranzug? If you were, were you also issued a regular strichtarn FDU?

If issued with both: Did you wear the FDU or the Panzeranzug when not working with your SFL or T-72, but still "in the field?"

I hope that last sentence makes sense.

I had the black Panzeranzug and the "normal" Stichtarn-FDU. We did not have the Strichtarn-Panzeranzug in AR-11. The "black" we wore always in the fieldtrainings-camps; not during trainings in the barracks or on the garrison-trainingsfield.
At the OHS we wore the "old" green-grey Panzeranzug, every time in trainings with the SFL.

to add to Dirk's observations...when anything dirty had to be done, we wore black...but at all other times we wore the Strichtarn FDU...we did not get the greenish Panzeranzug anymore that Dirk still got...(I started there the same year that Dirk left). Cheers, Torsten.

I have no questions regarding these cat's eyes as I used them myself, but I do think they fit into this thread quite well....they were used to secure marching columns. WHite on the front of the column and red on the rear. Cheer, Torsten.
