The item is 7 1/2 -inches overall high , the symbol itself is 6 1/4 by 5-inches and is 3/8-inches thick. -

I foud the same symbol as a woven sleeve patch on the upper left arm sleeve of a DDR Oberleutnant Navy Tunic that I had bought at a fleamarket in Hamburg right after the reunification in 1990 for at that time still DM 20 .Comment

Here the lower part of the sleeve with the rank stripes , they still go all the way around --not like lateron just a small section ---, and the trade wheel for 'Mechanic'- skill.Comment

I believe the Navy Oberlt. would have acted as an technical instructor concerning Navy schooling to the "Gesellschaft ..." , since I know they were a para-military organization ;... and was allowed to wear that sleeve patch .Comment
