    DDR Pension

I apologize if this has been covered.
When the DDR closed up shop did the new German Government assume responsibility for retired Police & military members. Certainly the DDR existed long enough for individuals to retire from government service.
And were they paid at the higher western rate, rather that the communist rate ?

Since no one has commented I'll take a swing at answering this. I'm away from my references but I believe it depends upon the timing of the retirement. Prior to unification NVA members over the age of 55 and General Officers were forced into retirement. After unification soldiers over the age of 50 were forced to retire. I believe there was some type of percentage system for both military and civil servents that was defined by the unification treaty were where they received much less than an equivelent member in West Germany military or civil service.
