Shoulder Boards E German vs Bundesgrenzschutz

I recently received a lot of East German shoulder boards which included what I believe to be several sets Bundesgrenzschutz (BGS) boards from different periods. They vary in size, attachment method and color (from green to hunter green to black). Some appear to have a plastic inner core. Can anyone here verify that they are all BGS boards or if some of them are possibly early East German or late TR? Kevin

Kevin here's my opinion of your shoulder boards:

    First row: both BGS
    Second row: BGS; Polizei
    Third row: both BGS
    Fourth row: BGS; Polizei
Fifth row: Polizei; BGS; No idea -- maybe WWII, naval BGS, BGS, or...
    Sixth row: BGS; Polizei; Polizei
    Collar tabs: BGS enlisted

All except the dark colored one in the fifth row (shows up black on my monitor) look like typical post-war West German shoulder boards.

    Hope this helps!

The light green ones are police. I'******196;ll have to check it, but I'm pretty sure it's Schleswig -Holstein.
Fifth row dark blue is Niedersachsen.
The Dark Green ones are BGS and the other dark blues are BGS -See.
In the future I'll post a lot of police stuff on the E-Stand. Some for free and a lot for sale. Like new Police Flight Jackets, Insignia, Uniforms etc.

Nico, I'm pretty sure all of the BGS shoulder boards are land forces. The BGS See boards should be dark blue, almost black, to match the uniforms. You're probably correct about the polizei boards being post 1950's Schleswig Holstein, or they may be Saarland.

I was wondering if the dark board was Niedersachsen, but all of mine are made with the shiny silver piping instead of the duller metal wrapped thread piping. Maybe an early manufactured board?

Thanks Jordan & Nico for your feedback. I suspected they were all West German BGS or Police but what threw me off was the one black backed company grade board with the dull silver finish. I wanted to make sure they were not TR or early DDR before I sell or trade them off as I don't collect this area. Kevin

            While you're at it.....

Gents - If wouldn't mind having a go at identifying the ranks and departments associated with these insignia, I'd be deeply grateful.

            Thanks - TJ

              Hallo TJ,

it is not East German and it is not Bundesgrenzschutz.

              It is West German Police.

              The first three are:
              Hessen (Hesse)
              1 stripe Polizei-Hauptwachtmeister
              2 stripes Polizei-Meister
              3 stripes Polizei-Obermeister

              The last four are:
              Baden-Württemberg
              1 stripe Polizei-Wachtmeister (candidate)
              3 stripes Polizei-Oberwachtmeister
1 stripe with silver cord Polizei-Hauptwachtmeister
3 stripes with silver cord Polizei-Obermeister

              Regards
              Uwe
