    Bestenabzeichen der NVA

    Found some interresting things about the Bestenabzeichen der NVA.
    Order No. 02/82 from the Minister of Defense say's:
    To get the Bestenabzeichen you must have the Sportsbadge, Military Sports Badge, Badge for good knowlege, The shooting Cord and if its possible for the soldiers duty the Quallification Badge.
    After the new regulation to have only Numbers up to 3 (4th Award) they had some new Regulations:
    When you quallified a
    5th time for the Bestman you automatically got the "Leistungsabzeichen"
    7th time you got the Verdienstmedaille in bronze
    9th time the VM in silver and
    12th time the VM in gold.
    With the award of the "Bestenabzeichen" you automatically quallified for the high honour of a photograph in front of the Unit Flag and a payment between 100 and 500 DDR Marks

      Nico - Very good information that you provided especially about the 7th 9th and 12th time.

        Nico - Thanks for the info. A few weeks back I had run across a 1987 copy of the newspaper Volksarmee which had an article on Bestenabzeichen with basically the same information. But had not had the time to translate it.
