As if the M54 helmets were not rare enough already...

Scouting the German speaking NVA forum, I have come across this photograph:

I remember somebody saying that an M54 helmet with a Polizei star was a rare beast. How rare is an M54 with a tricolour decal going to be?
A year or so ago I remember meeting forum member David_H at his stall where he had in proud display an absolutely mint decalled M56.
I wanted to genuflect...
How wrong could I be in worshipping false idols when truer ones do exist after all?

Actually, it is the helmet to the left that Matteo is commenting on - the one with the Tri-color Decal. Richard C., who on rare occasion posts on this forum, has one. He also has examples of both the Y-strap and much earlier and more rare, single chin strap M-54 Stahlhelm.

I don't know how rare the M-54 helemt, in general is. I do know they seldom turn up for sale. My gut feeling is that someone, somewhere in Europe is sitting on a sizeable "Lot" of these helmets, and is waiting for them to fetch a really high EURO amount, before making them available to the collector/consumer.

Hello,I really don't know how rare it is.I saw more than 30 off them offerd in a auction.
Prices where from 500 till 1200.
Have anyone got a grenz polizei m54 helmet???The decal should be with a green line ore on a green background.
A trader offerd me one for 3500 deutsch mark years ago.

Hello,I didn't buy one.It was offerd to me years ago,but it was to much money.
I hope that I get one for about 350 euro,thats the highest price I would pay for it.
I'll wait!!!
I have problems by paying lots off money for a helmet,I don't why.
But this m54 is one off the items I ever wanted to have.
