    Martin,

Michael has given you one of the best web sites for DDR ribbons. Unfortunately, there is no one site that I have found that includes good coverage of both sides of the medals that go with the ribbons displayed in this URL. Michael's suggestion that you look at the recent thread on reference books is a good one. Bartel's book is pobably the best complete source but there are other reference books listed that will be useful.

I am away from home at present but I'll try and post some other suggested reference sites and books once I get home on the weekend.

    Regards,

    Gordon

      Gordon,

Thanks for your help as well with the medal identification, this would be of great help as I have some odd ones that I bought in the 90's and would love to ID them.

      Regards

      Martin

        Hello all

Just got my "new" DVP Tunic with Visor Hat and want to have the experts giving me the or for this Set.

First Thing I noticed, was that the Tunic is quite light and not of the same fabric like my other DVP Jacket was. Its not wool,it feels more like a Worker-Jacket (east germans will know what I mean)
But then, its a Officers Rank.So could that be the reason for the different Material?
The Collar Tabs are very soft.they have no cardboard underneath the Fabric. But the zig-zag stitching looks correct.

        Ok,here are the Photos.

Collar Tabs are also slightly darker green, then I know it from the other DVP Jacket I had.

The Hat is just lovely...it has the nice looking Crusher Shape.

I first was a bit sceptic about the Cap Cord twisted to the left but compared with other Cords, the Metal content on this one is very high(shiny&sparkle)) so it has to be a early Cap Cord.

..and something I haven't seen before on DDR Caps. A Stamp on the inside of the Sweat Band with "Kontrolle bestanden"

                                Hi Andreas,

I'll give my observations and hopefully, someone that is very knowledgable about this particular type of uniform - David H. - will chime in with his observations.

Aside from the fact the Tunic is not woolen, the very first thing that struck me was the date. It is I/2, which is second quarter 1982. If the date tag on the garment in question is as it appears, then I think that in itself brings into question the authenticity of the Tunic.
The garment is real, but presumably it would be for some other purpose than that which is being represented.

                                The hat.
These hats are currently being replicated probably more than any other DDR hat. That is very unfortunate. It is the reason why for several years now I have a Tunic, but no hat. I can't bring myself to purchase one as I can't trust myself to know fake from real.

Initially, the hat looks great. It has that really nice "Crusher" look.
But, there are things that bother me.
Firstly, the hat appears to be brand new.
The light colored sweatband appears to be of modern era production.
And there is no sweatshield. It actually does not look as though it really ever had one. The color beneath where it originally would have been, and the color around it are all the same. Normally, when a Sweatshield is removed or torn away, there is a color variation.

These however are just observations at this juncture, and in no way are meant to infer the Tunic and the Hat are not positively not legite.
