Values of the NVA

This is a question to the NVA veterans in the forum, what was the values that the NVA try to inspire into it's troops? were they stricly Communist or did some Prussian values survive? also how did the NVA saw itself in relation to past armies of Germany?

I am unable to comment on the topic itself. (Although I would venture to say that overwhelmingly the values would have been socialist, and only implicitly Prussian). I just wanted to comment on the remarkable flag that you use as your Avatar .

Thanks! I don't know why exacly, but I always thought that the Kaiserreich flag with the DDR coat of arms on it is an excellent comibination

Well it seem that the NVA didn't abandon all former German militry traditions for example the JBFG 77 Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher and the Blücher medal, could anyone tell me why von Blücher was so highly regard in the DDR?

Bl******252;cher crossed the Rhein in WWI and the order was supposed to be given to those who first cross the Rhein in case of war. Which seems to me like someone was preparing to take over West Germany.
It obviously got more to do with motivation and idols than with Bl******252;cher as a person.

No, it's was supposed to be a valor award to NVA soldiers to be given in the great war against the west (equivelent of the EK in Germany past wars).

Blücher crossed the Rhein in WWI and the order was supposed to be given to those who first cross the Rhein in case of war. Which seems to me like someone was preparing to take over West Germany.

Blucher in WW1?! He fought in the 1813 war and was awarded the Grand Cross.
