    DDR militaria in today's Egypt

I was surprised today while reading the newspapers that I recognize that some Egyptian policeman are using DDR helmets as an anti-riot equipment. I guess they bought large stocks very cheap after the collapse of Est-Germany or maybe they bought them before 1989.

Look at the scans I have made. They talk for themselves. Maybe, we will import in the future our DDR militaria items from Egypt.

Neat picture! I've read that the DDR assisted Egypt in the production of AK-47 rifles.

Perhaps off topic, but Uzbekistan was also the recipient/purchaser of East German splinter camo and helmets.

not off-topic at all I think...would you have pics of Uzbekistan troops in DDR uniforms? Cheers, Torsten.

The uniform on the right sure looks east german to me.

Maybe these are EG ones, but they had them before. I was in Egypt in the mid 80's and saw them there on every corner with armed guards. ( Some of them w/o any footwear.)
At the Airport I told my Dad that they are ugly as the EG ones, and then I saw how many people came from the DDR, because they looked angry to me about my saying.

The cut looks rather east german, and the boots look like east german para boots.

Any idea what African country this picture was taken in? It is a good possibility that the boots maybe either French or a copy of the French design.
I have always heard rumors that the EG advisors operating in Angola and Mozambique wore green uniforms as well as civillian clothing. Does anyone have a pic of green uniforms they wore? I recently picked up an olive green uniform from a South African dealer who said it was EG. When I got it, I thought it was Cuban. I still am 99% positive it's Cuban, but was just hoping it might have been an EG one. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry, no pictures, but I'll see about getting some. The SF units here tended to end up with the rain camo. I've also seen them using the material to make their own US-style patrol caps.

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but I just recently bought one of the EG rain pattern uniforms used by Uzbekistan in 2001. The uniform is 100% positively EG made (except for the cap) with a few minor modifications. If my memory serves me correctly, the pants have a year code of 1988.
