Soviet academy badges featured on DDR uniforms

Until three days ago I had only seen soviet academy badges on generals uniforms of the DDR. However, this Freiwillige feuerwehr tunic have a soviet academy badge. If memory serves me right it's something about topograpy (or maybe mechanics or engineering).

    Anyone else seen something familiar?

could it be that this badge should not be with this uniform? Cheers, Torsten.

      Of course it could.
But then again, it might be original to the tunic (although I doubt it). There really is no way to know for sure. That is why I wan't someone to shed a little light on this matter.

I would think it highly unlikely that a Soviet University Graduate in the DDR would have been an NCO in the FFW...no idea if there were actually rules and egulations for this, but I would have thought that this would automatically catapulted him to officer status...Cheers, Torsten.

          Bone Collector,

That is not a Soviet Academy badge for attending one of their Higher Officer Schools. It is though a Russian School badge for fireighters.

          Cheers,

          Gordon

So this could actually be original to the uniform?
I was thinking about removing it from the uniform but now I guess it stays.

Hi Gordon, so it is more like a vocational school badge, rather then a University level school graduation badge? Would you know of a reference somewhere for these types of badges? Cheers, Torsten.

                Torsten,

Not off hand. The info came from a friend who is an advance Russian collector. I'll contact him again and see if he can recommend one.

                Cheers,

                Gordon

                    Torsten,

Here is a URL from Collect Russia, a well known dealer in Russian militaria, showing the badge in question and an outline of what it is and who could wear it. Apparently more than firefighters. I would contact Collect Russia about a reference for these sort of badges. They can give you the name of the right book to order.

                    Cheers,

                    Gordon
